Our Activities
Tarun ChetnaChild Care & Protection
Child Care & Protection is a core intervention area at Tarun Chetna. We firmly believe that children are meant to learn, not earn or be exploited. And they are the future of our nation. Regarding this, we promote child rights through various programs. These include Child Rights promotion through childline-1098 and CCRD by UNICEF/Phia, awareness against female feticide and birth registration via the WPC-UNFPA Programme, and the Child Rights Programme by APPI-Bangalore. Through these initiatives, we strive to safeguard and empower children, ensuring their rights and well-being.

Women Empowerment
Empowered women are the driving force behind an empowered nation. To achieve holistic development, women must be at the forefront. We enhance women’s participation in PRIs, health, literacy, and combating domestic violence. By forming community-based groups like SHGs, federations, and confederations at the Panchayat level, we strengthen their capacity through training and exposure programs. We conduct frequent awareness campaigns to educate women about their rights and opportunities, helping them elevate themselves and break the shackles of poverty.
Livelihood
In our operational area, socially excluded groups, particularly Muslims and SC communities, lack access to government livelihood opportunities like PMRY and NREGA, and bank loans. Women in these communities face even harsher economic exploitation. Tarun Chetna addresses this by offering micro credits for income-generating activities, enhancing skills and knowledge through vocational training and exposure programs, and facilitating linkages with banks and government programs for these marginalized groups.

Education
Education is a fundamental right of every child as it is the ultimate way to illuminate their lives. However, access to education remains unreached, particularly for girls and children from marginalized backgrounds. Tarun Chetna addresses this by focusing on enhancing enrollment, reducing dropouts and discrimination, promoting girl child education, offering scholarships, and providing school supplies. Through campaigns, awareness programs, advocacy efforts, and interface meetings with education department representatives and communities, we strive to ensure every child’s right to education is upheld, regardless of their background.
Health & Nutrition
In rural areas, health is often neglected, leading to tragic outcomes, especially for women and girls. Tarun Chetna addresses this by focusing on women’s health issues such as ANC & PNC services, immunization, and accessing JSY to reduce maternal mortality rates. We also highlight and combat the issue of illegal sex determination, advocating for the safety of girls from the womb onwards. Additionally, we address the issue of accessing supplementary food for children from socially excluded communities, ensuring their well-being.

Tobacco Free India Program
Tarun Chetna’s The Tobacco Free India Program aims to create a healthier India. In collaboration with WCRO-New Delhi, we launched the “Tobacco Taxession and Tobacco Free Society” campaign. Initially part of the TFS programme, this initiative continues through the WCRO network. We primarily target schools, as they play a crucial role in shaping the future of communities. By raising awareness among children, we aim to reduce smoking and tobacco use among youth. Our work with schools, panchayats, and PHCs transforms these sites into hubs of change, fostering a tobacco-free environment for students.
